What is an ADU?

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are known by many names: man caves, in-law quarters, home office, rental unit, and more. Regardless of what they’re called, ADUs are affordable, innovative, and an effective option for adding on much-needed housing to your California property.

The first step in the process of building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) on your property is to have a feasibility study conducted on your site. Working with our architect and design team, we will determine exactly what can be built on your particular lot. The study includes a review of building codes and zoning requirements, a site map and site plan, the allowable square footage and the basic layout of your ADU, building setbacks, parking requirements, site accessibility, deed restrictions, location of utilities and maximum site density.

Upon completion of the feasibility study, Premier ADU will discuss the available options with you, the homeowner. The feasibility study allows us to diligently explore and, if the parties agree, enter into a written agreement for Premier ADU’s provision to incorporate an accessory dwelling unit on your property.

Why Invest in an ADU?

Think of an ADU as an investment in your future. It can be a financial investment for extra income, an investment in the enjoyment of your property or an investment in your family.

ADU Building Process

Our 6 Step Process

Step 1

Site Assessment

To start the process, it is important for us to have a clear view and understand the specific details of your property. This step helps us identify property lines, setbacks, potential issues, and/or other factors. This is accomplished through our detailed feasibility study of your property.
Step 2

Design Team

We will discuss your needs, goals, and budget, along with other aspects directly related to your new ADU. We have 5 predesigned models to choose from, this allows you to select an ADU that meets your specific needs. Each one of our models offers a contemporary interior design with several finish options.

Step 3

Obtain Financing

If needed, one of our team members will help analyze your financial information, such as income, assets, expenses, along with other determining factors. You will then be directed to one of our partner lenders that will review the terms of your loan and answer any questions you may have about financing your new ADU.

There are grant programs available for construction, be sure to ask your consultant for current details.

Step 4

Acquire Permits

Once you approve a design with our team, we help you acquire the necessary permits with your local jurisdiction. While permitting can be a daunting process, rest assured we will handle all the groundwork that goes into getting you through the approval process.
Step 5

Construction Process

Our build team outlines a construction timeline and keeps you informed throughout the process. We will coordinate pre-construction, staging, materials, labor, and inspections necessary for the completion of your new ADU.
Step 6

Final Occupancy

Once we are finished building your ADU, it is ready for move in! We will walk you through all the features, home care maintenance, and warranty information package. We will also be happy to answer any specific questions you may have about your newly completed ADU.
